Benzema 10, Carvajal 6: rating Real Madrid players in Chelsea win

The two teams displayed a relatively equal 20-minute spell before Karim Benzema started his show. The Frenchman scored two brilliant headers within three minutes, perfectly linking up with Vinicius Junior and Luka Modric.

Chelsea took things under control after a while, eventually finding the net through Kai Havertz's header. They seemed to have regained their confidence, but Benzema ruined their chances of a comeback after Edouard Mendy gifted him the third goal with an epic blooper.

The Blues' hopes were alive until the very last minute of the game. Romelu Lukaku's emergence helped them create even more clear-cut scoring chances – but they weren't good enough to convert them.

The game tempo lowered a lot closer to the end of the match. Real Madrid's defence-minded display in the second half paid off as they recorded a well-deserved 3-1 win.

Karim Benzema - 10/10
Unbelievable. We knew Karim was in some special kind of form, but becoming the first player to score a European hat-trick against Chelsea - and do it at Stamford Bridge - no, we couldn't have imagined it!
He was incredibly deadly tonight.

Thibaut Courtois - 9/10
The Belgian was once again solid between the sticks, making some crazy saves that could've brought Chelsea back into the game.

Vinicius Jr - 8/10
The forward only got an assist tonight but he was extremely dangerous in the first half, constantly causing trouble to Chelsea defenders.

Federico Valverde - 7.5/10
The Uruguayan actually was a great choice at right wing. Valverde was brilliant during Madrid's counterattacks and helped the team a lot defensively.

Toni Kroos - 7.5/10
The German was impressive offensively and defensively. Kroos started Real Madrid's first goalscoring attack with a smart move, then recorded 3 tackles and missed only 3 of his 40 passes!

Other players' ratings: Casemiro 7.5, Modric 7, Militao 7, Mendy 7, Nacho 7, Alaba 6.5, Carvajal 6, Camavinga N/A, Bale N/A, Ceballos N/A.
