No team has ever managed to win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup during the same season in English football history.
It’s undoubtedly a mighty ask, but having beaten both Manchester City and United in the space of four days, the feat now seems more achievable than ever.
Their comprehensive victory over United at Anfield saw the Reds move to the top of the Premier League table for the first time since last October.
The Merseyside club are also currently the favourites with bookmakers to win the Champions League, with their next assignment in that competition being a two-legged semi-final meeting with underdogs Villarreal.
Jurgen Klopp’s men already have the League Cup in the bag having defeated Chelsea to lift that trophy back in late February. The two sides will meet again at Wembley on May 14 to decide the winner of the 2022 FA Cup.
Not only, however, are Liverpool in a strong position to land the quadruple, but their form on the pitch at present suggests that they will be a tough opponent for any team in the world to overcome.
Unbeaten in the Premier League in 2022, the club hasn’t tasted defeat in any competition for nine games – and their superstar squad seems to be getting better with each passing week.
Midfield maestro Thiago Alcantara entered a supreme performance against United, while January signing Luis Diaz has taken to the English game at a frightening speed.
Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota can always be depended on to find the back of the net – and top scorer Mo Salah ended a recent barren run by bagging a brace on Tuesday evening.
Full-back duo Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have produced the goods all season, both creatively and in defensive quarters. The remainder of Liverpool’s backline hasn’t been too shabby either, conceding just 22 Premier League goals all season.
Overall, few could credibly argue that Liverpool are not one of the best sides on the planet right now.
Perhaps nobody is better to weigh in on that particular distinction than the data analysts at FiveThirtyEight, who crunch the numbers after every single fixture to maintain an ongoing record of the world’s top-performing teams, known as ‘The Global Club Soccer Rankings’.
As we enter the business end of the season around Europe, here is a look at the top 25 men’s teams in the world right now.

Only a few short years ago, it would have been unthinkable for Man United to be ranked as low as the 21st best club in the world.
Today, just hours after their dismal showing against Liverpool, it could be argued that such a position is still considerably higher than United deserve in their present state.
On the other side of Manchester, City not only lost top spot in the Premier League to Liverpool on Tuesday evening, but they were also replaced by the Reds at the head of the Global Soccer Club Rankings, too.
