Furthermore, John Murtough became Football Director in March, leaving his role as Head of Football Development.
Reports had surfaced in March claiming that United felt Murtough needed a deputy to help with the club’s strategy and the Red Devils have subsequently brought O’Boyle to Old Trafford.
O’Boyle has left his role with the Premier League as their Head of Elite Performance to return to Manchester United. He worked as a fitness coach at Old Trafford in 2006, helping players such as Marcus Rashford.
O’Boyle told the club’s official website: “I am thrilled to be rejoining Manchester United at such an exciting time for the club, as the first team prepares for a fresh start under Erik ten Hag, and the Academy and women’s teams go from strength to strength.
He added: “Whilst it has been a privilege to serve the Premier League for the past five years, I can’t wait to get started at United and play my part in creating the right environment for football success.”
John Murtough added that the arrival of O’Boyle will prove a “valuable addition to my team”. He said the new arrival will “strengthen leadership and strategic planning” in all areas of the club.
