Speaking to the Express, former Newcastle United and Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique said: "It would be a massive mistake for them to go for Neymar or Paul Pogba.
"I don't think Eddie Howe will go for these kinds of players. Pogba doesn't suit Newcastle and Eddie Howe will look for a more aggressive, high-intensity player.
"It will be similar to when Manchester City signed Robinho, it didn't work out and I know the fans would love these players, but they'll go for the money and not the project."
Pogba will be a free agent this summer although the Frenchman is expected to return to Juventus. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain are said to be open to selling Neymar.
However, at least one Manchester United player could be on his way to Newcastle when the transfer window reopens. The Magpies are reportedly interested in Dean Henderson.
