Ranking The Top 10 Biggest Football Clubs in the World Based on Brand Value in 2022

Brand value is a valuation that 'seeks to estimate the net economic benefit that a brand owner would achieve by licensing the brand in the open market.' In recent years, football has proven to be a very lucrative sport to invest in.

Real Madrid is the biggest brand in world football after the Spanish La Liga club succeeded in increasing the value of its brand by 19 percent after winning the Champions League and the Spanish La Liga last season. A strong start to the current season has endured that Carlo Ancelotti's side maintained its place at the top.

According to annual publications by Brand Finance, Real Madrid increased its brand value from $1.5 billion to $1.768 billion.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City comes second on the list with a brand value of $1.539 billion. The Cityzens continue to go from strength to strength after Pep Guardiola helped transform the club's fortune on the pitch. Barcelona narrowly missed out on the second spot as they have a brand value of $1.536 billion.

Liverpool overtook Manchester United, condemning their fierce rival to their lowest rank ever, after occupying the fourth position with a brand value of $1.475 billion. This is due to the Merseyside club's recent on-field success having won the two domestic cups last season. Manchester United's 11 percent increase in brand value couldn't see them break into the top three and their current brand value stands at $1.45 billion.
