Argentina scored two goals in six minutes to lead Croatia in the World Cup semi-final.

Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livaković brought Julian Àlvarez down in the area which allowed Lionel Messi to dispatch a penalty into the top corner to give his country the lead after 33 minutes.

Álvarez doubled that advantage six minutes later, striding into the box after a swift Argentina counter-attack and seeing the ball ricochet back into his path before poking home from eight yards out.

Livaković then had to be alert to produce a instinctive save to turn away Alexis MacAllister’s close-range header as Lionel Scaloni’s side turned the key on their opponents.
